Fletcher: 8 weeks

Smiles, lots of smiles.

That's what our days are filled with at the moment. He cracked his first one at about 6 weeks and just hasn't stopped since. I even got greeted with one the other morning when I went to pick him up from his cot! Now that, THAT had to be one of the best moments of motherhood so far. Talk about heart melting stuff.

Fletch has been sleeping like a champion. He's been managing all-nighters for about two weeks now which has been heaven. That first night when he didn't wake up for a feed and I got more than 2 hours of sleep in a row was something close to orgasmic. Seriously. So damn good. He started sleeping a stretch of 5 hours, then 6, then 7 and somehow now he manages about 11. Result. I wish I could say I knew how it happened so I can make sure it happens again should we be so lucky as to have another baby, but alas, I have NFI. We've been loosely following a routine (guided by Tizzy & Gina - more on that in another post), mostly based on the feed-play-sleep idea so that may have helped.

It's also highly possible we just got lucky. Got ourselves a good sleeper. Phil could fall asleep standing up in a crowded nightclub while being slapped with a wet fish, so I'm guessing Fletch takes after him. However it happened, and whatever the reason, I'm just grateful we're all getting some sleep. For now, anyway.

It's amazing to watch a little baby grow and develop. I know everyone tells you so, but it really is incredible and it happens so quickly. Our little  baby boy has gone from being a curled up bundle of cute to a moving, curious, bright-eyed, laughing little-bit-bigger baby boy. One of the best bits so far? He's started chatting to us. Coo-ing and grrr-ing and ahhh-ing like it's no one's business. It's so cute I can't bear it.

We're taking it easy over the next week and a half before taking Fletch on his first overseas adventure. We're off to Taiwan over Easter for the wedding of some great friends and then Easter Monday we're off to Sydney for 3 weeks. The logistics of travelling with a baby are scaring the bejeesus out of me, but we've got to do it sometime, so why not be ambitious and travel to 3 countries in two consecutive days?!

Are we mental? I think the answer is yes. But it will be so worth it.

Nor the smiles!! They are the best, aren't they!

I love that bottom photo of you both, just gorgeous.

Sounds like he is really content to be sleeping so long, well done hun.

As for the travelling, Abi was on her 1st international flight at 14 weeks old. You would be surprised how well babies handle the trip. It's the parents that stress overload! Try and keep your baby bag with you on the floor, not in the overhead bin so you can access whatever you need at all times. Lots of outfits, nappies, etc in case you get delayed. I found whenever my kids needed something, it was always was we were taxing down the runway or just taking off!

Keeping him covered in the airport will avoid germs and people looking/touching. I remember in Singapore and Malaysia, people would come and touch Abi and take photos of her because she had blonde hair and blue eyes? It was so weird.

Enjoy the dumplings in Taiwan! And coming to Sydney? I'll tell the weatherman to get his act into gear and bring out some sunshine for you guys!

xx

Oh he is gorgeous! Those first thing smiles are the best.

From someone who has been woken every 20 mins for the past three nights, enjoy those long nights!

He'll do fine. The littler they are the easier they are. My kids have always done well esp on planes. It's when they start running around that it gets hard. Just feed on take off and landing to help his little ears.

Oh I love this post Bridget! Brings back all of those beautiful newborn memories for me, just gorgeous. Your little Fletch is a perfect bubba, he looks divine and obviously is a very happy relaxed little man sleeping for you like that. I totally know what you mean about those first nights when they sleep through, AMAZING! For our first, it was 4 weeks before he slept through, for our second it was 10 weeks. Our second boy has been a live wire from the get-go though, so I guess they're all individuals. Well done and enjoy the baby bliss AND sleep. Look forward to reading about your travelling adventures xo

Very sweet and you are lucky re the sleep.

I swear by Tizzy. Really, she rocks. I couldn't get jiggy with Gina but lots of people swear by her.

I embraced routine a la Tizzy and I had an amazing 12 months.

The days are long but the years fly so enjoy x
